A few things will influence whether an adaptive sampling approach will be better than a non-adaptive sampling run.
1. Whether a sufficient amount of sample has been loaded, since it is easier for a pore to capture another strand after a non-match has been rejected.
2. The read-length of the sample. Longer reads mean that a pore will spend less time waiting for new strands.
3. The number of reads in the sample that is expected to be reads of interest. A very low proportion of target reads means that a large number of reads will be rejected. Every rejection takes about 0.5s plus the additional time the pore needs to capture another read.
