The rapid kits use transposase-based chemistry which will randomly cleave the double-stranded DNA as described in this <a href="https://community.nanoporetech.com/technical_documents/chemistry-technical-document/v/chtd_500_v1_reva_07jul2016-509/library-preparation-ligat?from=support" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">technical document</a>.

Therefore, we recommend using input DNA that is &gt;30kb. Using shorter DNA will lead to hyper fragmentation, so a shorter read length is expected.
